In 2001, the author reunited with his researcher in Spain where she combed many archives locating thousands of pages of new material on La Galga. Within these ancient documents, there was found a report that the ship was covered in sand within three days after of the wreck leaving only the upper structure sticking out of the water which later broke to pieces. Extensive research was also done in England and by the author here in the United States where he uncovered never before published documents on the history of the horses. With records from Spain, the account of the ship and her captain bring the story finally into the realm of our own national heritage. The most comprehensive narrative that can be told, has. The Hidden Galleon at last documents nearly three decades of dramatic and bizarre events related to the real story of a lost Spanish warship and the wild ponies of Assateague Island.
SOMEDAY THE HIDDEN GALLEON WILL BE EXCAVATED, PRESERVED, AND HOUSED IN ITS OWN MUSEUM. THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO THAT IDEA.
