The Hidden Galleon Comments from readers

As the captain of a tour boat which sails around the Island of Chincoteague, I find The Hidden Galleon to be both enlightening and refreshing. It validates the stories that my family has told for years about the origins of the Chincoteague Ponies and the Spanish warship which wrecked on the Island.Captain Dan Davis, Captain Dan’s Island Tours CaptainDansTours.com

The Hidden Galleon is a magnet that will draw readers through its wonderful historic "connect the events" content......this beautifully illustrated adventure is detailed with archival maps and drawings and pictures that brings the reader into a fascinating adventure of the last days of the Spanish warship La Galga to its final resting place in Maryland's Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
Author John Amrhein takes the reader on his lifelong journey to prove that the wreck of La Galga in a terrible hurricane in September, 1750 included the descendants of Chincoteague Island's pony population that attracts tens of thousands of tourists yearly to Maryland.
As a native of Baltimore, Maryland and a high school US History teacher here in Virginia with 40 years of classroom experience, I found that the book was impossible to put down and a delight to read. In truth, it brought back wonderful memories of the pony pennings that I loved so much to see whenever we traveled to Maryland's eastern shore in the 1950s.  Arthur J. The Hidden Galleon brings the thrill of many years of treasure hunting right into your own living room and makes you want to continue reading as you participate in the progression of the hunt. The final conclusions are rewarding and exciting. Sally A. Markham, Kitty Hawk, NC

I just finished reading "The Hidden Galleon" and thoroughly enjoyed the book. This year I finally purchased one of the Chincoteague ponies at the auction. Since reading Misty of Chincoteague as a young girl I thank you for your research that gives credence to the local  shipwreck stories of the ponies presence on Assateague. RE: Your Book is Wonderful

I just wanted to let you know that I purchased your book last week on our 6th family visit to Chincoteague. I finished reading it this afternoon and I really enjoyed it. I wish more people were as knowledgeable as you are.

I have always been drawn to Chincoteague and Assateague and their history. Thank you for writing this book. I'm glad I can add it to my growing library of books about these two places.

Sincerely,

Susan Pfuntne

Thank You for your hard work and the book that came out of it! My great grandparents lived on Assateague and I grew up hearing stories of "the Spanish galleon". I feel very connected to the history and your book put it all in one place. September 4th will cross my mind every year now on this date. I'm so intrigued with the story and wish I could see the remains of the ship. I don't know what has happened to me since I have read the book, but I can't get enough of it! I have read it once however I pick it up once a day or more just to reread parts. I stand at the shores now and think of the captain from Ireland and what it must have been like for them during the storm. I was the one standing in the water reading your book and rusty pieces of iron appeared at my feet. I took them to Beth. Again thank you- obviously you feel very connected to Assateague also maybe you had a past life in that era....anything is possible.                 Sincerely Bobbie Allen, Chincoteague, VA

I re-read your book about three or four months ago and enjoyed it as much as the first time. This should be a Hollywood movie !!! I still marvel at your detailed memory, meticulous writing and logic in the brilliantly written book.
